The Animation Society of India (TASI) has been in existence since 2001 and for the last 15 years has been tirelessly working towards educating and helping the animation community in the country to not only grow but also gain and share its knowledge among folks from across creative industries.

TASI was set-up with the mission to provide a platform for promoting exchange of creative and technical information in the Indian art and animation industry and a view to strengthening existing talent and also encouraging growth by educating and guiding prospective artists in India, which it has managed to do over the years and its annual festival called Anifest has been recognised as a fest of international standards.

Anifest India 2015 is set to take place on 29 and 30 August at IES Manik Sabhagriha, Opposite Lilavati Hospital, Bandra Reclamation, Bandra (West), Mumbai. This year’s special attractions include two distinguished keynotes from the world of animation and VFX, the first day will feature a special feature presentation by none other than Pixar’s Sanjay Patel himself, who recently made headlines to be the first Indian origin artist from Pixar to get a release of his short animation film called ‘Sanjay’s Super Team’ and the second day will allow the audience to go behind the magical world of 2015’s and India’s biggest motion picture till date in SS Rajamouli’s ‘Baahubali – The Beginning’ as Sanath PC and Srinivas Mohan speak about the Previz and VFX making of this film.

TASI’s founder trustee and member of the managing committee Ranjit ‘Tony’ Singh spoke exclusively to on this year’s Anifest line-up and what more to expect.

“We’re very happy, to see a half day fest having grown to an internationally recognised festival with 2-3 days of intense but fun learning sessions over the years. And we’re extremely happy to announce that the Maharashtra IT-ITES policy of 2015 has recognised Anifest India as one of the premier events of the state/country and the state government has pledged its support to the festival from here on. This is a major achievement and responsibility for the entire community and we’re thankful to all those who worked behind the scenes to make this a reality. The Society was formed in 2001 and this is our 15th year, so from a gathering of friends to becoming a state recognised cultural/educational event of importance is a huge step for us, and validates our 15 year investment for the community,” he expressed.

On the expectations from this year’s Anifest, Tony added: “Expectations are always realistic, we pride ourselves in content selection and participation from international and national experts. All our speaker work hard on their presentations, as they realise the importance and prestige of this platform. We’re sure this year is not going to be any different. We’re honoured to have 2 keynote presentations – our Indian Maestros Sanath PC and Srinivas Mohan presenting a behind the scenes look at Baahubali and Sanjay Patel from Pixar, presenting his beautiful film, plus there is a wonderful lineup of speakers on a variety of topics. It’s going to be fun.”

The fact that the committee has an uncompromising and principled approach to neutrality is what has enabled TASI to create a brand that everyone across the board, trusts and respects. The non-profit organisation has only one agenda, which is the benefit of the community.  “We are constantly on the lookout for interesting subjects and place a high premium on the quality of the speakers and their content,” beamed Tony.
